After notifying my family members across the country of the transitioning of Mother Childs, I have spent the last few days reminiscing and trying to condense down to a few sentences what this beautiful, loving soul of a woman meant to me and my family. I met Deacon and Sister Childs at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in 1988 and from that time on, she became the mother that I never had and the grandmother that my daughters, Terri and Tammi, never had. She wore many hats for me; a mother, a sister, and an unconditional friend that never wavered in her gift of love. In 2002, during the last year of my father's life, I would stay in the Childs household on my visits from North Carolina until my father passed in March of 2002. Mother Childs and Deacon Childs opened their home to my family that came from across the country and welcomed all of us with loving, genuine open arms to stay in their lovely home as we prepared for the homegoing service and even afterwards. They treated all of us like family and we lovingly crowned her "Queen" and we continue to this day to refer to her as such. On behalf of my family members that had the honor of knowing her, we share with you the loving memories she created for us. We loved her and I speak for myself, my daughters Terri( Dallas) and Tammi (OKC), my brother David Earl (L.A), my sisters Pearl (L.A) and Rosemary (Memphis), and my cousins Brenda and Ike (L.A). I thank you the Childs family for so selflessly sharing your Mother with me for so many years. I still remember her phone number- 405-528-0042. God bless you and your family richly. You have big shoes to fill. I love you and will keep you in my prayers. Shirley Jones Littlejohn

I have mixed emotions when I think of Sis. Childs at this time. I am quite saddened to hear of her passing. I met her and Bro. Sylvanister through our common interest in Sunday school and if you don't think that God has a sense of humor, you are greatly mistaken. She found such pleasure in the "discussions" between Bro. Sylvanister and myself on whatever lessons we were having on any particular Sunday morning. It seemed I immediately became family. I will miss the many home conversations we had where she would expound on her philosophy of life with comedy and laughter but bathed in much wisdom. She was such an inspiration. Time was never an issue during those visits because it always seemed to fly by. Now, on the other hand, I rejoice to know that she has already entered into God's heavenly kingdom, looking into the eyes of Jesus, and reunited with Bro. Sylvanister and the rest of her family members. To those whom she has left behind, be encouraged that by God's grace and mercy you will see her again and He will give you the strength you need to walk on in love with one another as He orders your steps in His Word. Be blessed and much love to you.
