I too was privileged to attend Langston University under the great leadership of Dr. Ernest Holloway. For many, Dr. Holloway was our Dr. Martin Luther King, our Justice Thurgood Marshall and our President Obama….and still is… If there is a university in heaven I’m sure that Dr. Holloway is busy leading, teaching, educating, tuning and changing spirits for a better universe… I am reminded of the final passage of a very powerful but very personal poem that Dr. Holloway would have been familiar with which is as follows… “TIRED MOMENTS FIND ME A DELIGHTFUL TREAT, HOURS OF SORROW, A SHRINE OF UNDERSTANDING, AT ALL TIMES I AM FAITHFUL TO THE CREED OF COMPANIONSHIP, TO A FEW, I AM THE CASTLE OF DREAMS, AMBITIOUS, SUCCESSFUL, HOPEFUL DREAMS. TO MANY, I AM THE POETIC PLACE WHERE HUMAN FEELING IS RHYMED TO CELESTIAL MOTIVES; TO THE GREAT MAJORITY, I AM THE TREASURY OF GOOD FELLOWSHIP.” “IN FACT, I AM THE COLLEGE OF FRIENDSHIP; THE UNIVERSITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE; THE SCHOOL FOR THE BETTER MAKING OF MEN. . .” I think this passage reflects but just a small portion of the spirit that was…. and is….. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Holloway family in the loss of Dr. Ernest L. Holloway Sr. He was a great man and pillar in the Langston Community. We have known him all our lives and looked up to him as the true Langston Lion. I had the opportunity of having Mrs. Holloway as an elementary teacher at the Laboratory school and Dr. Holloway as the President when I attended LU from 1978-82. He will never be forgotten. We used to talk in the Post office some days and he would talk about his grandchildren and called us his "chillun". We loved him but God loved him best. Be encouraged. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal! We'll miss you Dr. Holloway!!!!

Mr. and Mrs. Holloway were OUTSTANDING educators. People with genuine character will always make an impact that will long be remembered. It seems he traveled quite frequently, whether it was to represent the interests of the university, or attend the funeral of a deceased Langston graduate, or visiting alumni chapters all over the United States.
