June 27th, 2022 To Mrs. Emma Brown and the Family of Martin Lee Brown: My heart broke when I heard of the passing of my dear friend, Martin. In June of 1982 I joined Shiloh Baptist Church and met Martin and I realized after that first meeting that I had met a friend for life. Over the years our friendship grew as Brother Martin impressed me as a man as he consistently demonstrated his love for his family, church, and his God. A devout Christian in the truest sense of the word, Martin’s commitment and faith in the Lord never wavered One of the funny things that I remember about Martin was one day when we were talking on the phone while I was in the car. We were talking about the Bible, and I was taken aback by something he said and I said, “Martin, that’s a little self-righteous, isn’t it? Let he that is without sin, let him first cast a stone.” And Martin said, “Do you have a rock?”. We had a good laugh over that. Martin was always a good friend to me and I’m going to miss him terribly. But I will take comfort in knowing that he is in a better place and that I will see him again. To Emma and the entire Brown family, you have my, and my family’s, heartfelt condolences. If there is anything we can do for you, know we are there for you and praying for you. Please take comfort in these words of the from the scriptures: “And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.” Finally, I hope these few words from a poet will help to lift your spirit: “Weep not, weep not, He is not dead; He’s resting in the bosom of Jesus. Heart-broken wife--weep no more; Grief-stricken family--weep no more; He is only just gone home.” Yours in Christ, Keith Thomas and Family
