I was Baptized by Rev. TJ Roberts as a little girl @ New Zion Bpt. Church on corner of 9th and Styles . I’m in my mid 70,s now ,but I can remember He always had that Holy glowness around his face ! I always felt he could see right through people even singing in the children’s chorus he would turn around and look at us and say Amen . Not sure if it was how good we were singing or trying to catch who was chewing gum . His presence commanded a “ who is this man” . This man was our Good Shepherd, our Leader ,our teacher or Paster and a friend to all he encounter. Forever greatful that God sent him to us . RIP Reverend TJ Roberts you will be forever missed ,and Loved . 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 T for his family and thanks for sharing him with his church family all these years . 💕💕

I’ve know Pastor Roberts since I was about 13 years old. My greatest memories being that he was my father’s (Pastor I.L. Bacy’s) dear friend and brother in the ministry. Pastor Roberts (at that time pastor of Mt. Zion on Stiles Circle) presided over the council the night that our church (New Bethel Baptist Church) was organized some 62 years ago in the basement of Mt. Zion. What an awesome pastor/teacher/leader he has been in our community! Last of the Old Guard! Dr. Winn, Pastor George Houston, Pastor Hill, the Perrys, Pastor Hubbard, Pastor Fairly, Pastor Provo, Pastor WK Jackson, Pastor Marshall. Pastor Walker,, Pastor Howard Pastor Bratton, Pastor Roland, and others whose names escape me at this moment. It’s been some years and I’ve forgotten some of the names. But this community has missed the presence of these dynamic and powerful men of faith. But as the Soul Stirrers song goes “It Won’t Be Very Long!” before we will see them again. God bless you Pastor Roberts! Our love and prayers to the Roberts Family. Sis. Bacy and Brendolyn, Paula, Jerrell, Iva, Kedric and Rev. Dorian Bacy.

Dr. Roberts was instrumental in the founding of KIPP OKC. He allowed me to host our first KIPP meeting at his church to gather interest in beginning a KIPP school in Oklahoma City. Dr. Roberts was more than a pastor and a great person; he was a community leader. Dr. Roberts was instrumental as one of the founding board members of KIPP, and his leadership and vision were invaluable to our success. His passing leaves a void, but his impact and legacy will always be remembered and cherished.
