Special notations: Marcia Sharon McMillin was born in Oklahoma City on November 1, 1943 and passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025 due to complications from renal disease after a long illness including having been diagnosed many years ago as one of 300 known cases having a rare genetic bone condition known as Camurati-Engelmann Disease at the Mayo Clinic.
She is survived by her fiancé, life partner, and co-therapist, Dr. Mel Preisz, of Oklahoma City; and her beloved nephew, Angus McMillin, who recently relocated to New Jersey.
Marcia was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence McMillin, an attorney in Oklahoma City, and mother, Rose Lee Jeffrey McMillin, his paralegal. Also preceding her in death was her younger brother, Jim McMillin, a successful attorney in New York City and later in Oklahoma City, who passed last September. Marcia’s Aunt Joann Jeffrey died in the 1990's.
After graduating from Harding High School, Marcia attended Oklahoma City University where she studied Sociology and Psychology. She obtained a Master’s degree at the University of Oklahoma and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker eventually earning the status of Diplomate as well as various academic and practical licenses, certifications, and accreditations including: MSW, LCSW, DCSW, QCSW, NASW, & ACSW.
She was a professional astrologer and a founder of the Oklahoma City Astrological Association. Her career included work at Sunbeam Family Services and South Day Treatment Center. While at Sunbeam, the oldest counseling agency in Oklahoma, she was the top resource for court-ordered cases involving sexual abuse and child custody and worked with a wide range of marriage and family cases, sexual disorders, pedophiles, incest, and unfit parents. She served in Sunbeam's Experimental Day Care Facility treating young children with disabilities and mental disorders.
She began her professional partnership with Dr. Melvyn Preisz, PhD, a practicing psychologist and professor at Oklahoma City University over 40 years ago. They began working jointly at the Oklahoma City Psychiatric Clinic, and, as co-therapists, established the Preisz-McMillin Clinic, Inc. pioneering new treatment methodologies using what they coined the Preisz-McMillin Co-Therapeutic Process.
They have been recognized for their counselling work with survivors of the Murrah Federal Building Bombing; called as expert witnesses in countless court cases across Oklahoma; and gained international notoriety from their work with patients suffering from psychological challenges such as: Complex PTSD, MPD, depression, anxiety, marital crises, addiction, psychosexual disorders, acute trauma, phobias, panic and mood disorders, abuse & rehabilitation, dissociative conditions, educational & occupational problems, and more.
Marcia was known for her dedication to her family, friends, and patients, and was a never-ending source of inspiration for her fiancé Mel.
