Born May 13, 1947, in McAlester, Oklahoma, he was valedictorian of L’Ouverture High School and a Vietnam veteran who was wounded twice in combat and awarded two Purple Hearts. He worked for the United States Postal Service before serving from July 20, 1979, to July 31, 2004, with the Oklahoma City Fire Department, retiring as a deputy fire marshal.
He is survived by his children, Herbert Ray Keith Jr., Takesha Keith, Stephen Keith (Christy) and Austin Keith (Christiana); grandchildren, Yionis, Cole, Samuel and Braylon Keith; and sisters, Francine Liggins, Pearline Rider and Alice Fay Newman. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gina Keith-Marlarney.
