Through informal debates and observation of his actions, I've had the chance to see the compassion of Patrick's heart. He has consistently taken a stance for the vulnerable which has made me appreciative of his presence as well as his rationale and advice. He will be missed by all who have had the opportunity to get to know him. May we all feel his loving presence.

Wow...not getting the phone call saying..."What's the 411?" or "Tell me how its looking?" When I called you and to hear you say "911 What's your emergency?' I know you were my friend I could talk to about anything. Love, Art, Music, Eras, Culture, RACISM, Faith, History, Education, Relationships, The Past, The Present and The Future...when I did anything, you would encourage me by saying "Good for you!" You were sincere and a comedian at the same time. Your heart for compassion was inherited and your love for children was real. I am your family, but I am praying for all of the children throughout the years who you blessed with kind words or provocative conversations. I love you cousin and it has been hard just in the past four days not hearing your voice...It was one week ago today we shared lunch together on my way to the courthouse. You encouraged me and told me that I would do well before the judge as a social worker. Your leap of faith to try so many things and be successful in them all still amazes me. You told me to get my MSW...I have to do something big and thanks for always believing in me! wow...you will never be forgotten...watch over me and as we affectionately called each other "babe"...may your memory of encouragement, love, peace, faith, activism, social justice, courage and grace live on!

He was a strong, humble, natural leader. Mr. Baker taught me and other young people the importance of doing more than being a therapist, a good social worker, or a good student. He taught us about connecting people and treating them with respect. The world lost someone incredible this week. I pray for your safe passage. Lots of love. Thank you for your love and friendship. thank you for believing in me and inspiring me. You will be missed.

Patrick Bernard Baker was one of the kindest, most generous of spirit, giving and loving human beings I have ever known. I was blessed to share and support him in the development and presentation of his picturebook, "My Father is in Prison". His insight and empathy in giving a voice to the voiceless, a face to the faceless and a platform for the ignored in our society was unmatched. The break in my heart is as deep as the love and respect and fond memories that I will always hold. When the tears stop falling I feel that the glow from his presence will remain in our hearts forever. May the Peace and Love of Our Lord remain always with you, my dear brother. Keep smiling and blessing us always. Peace, Mike.

Anything I could say about Mr. Baker is what we all should strive for to be said about ourselves. He was a selfless giver of his time, his attention, his talents and resources. I have gotten to know him well as a co-worker and he listened with such compassion that it became all too easy to speak with him about anything from the frivolous to the personal. We discussed politics, matters of race, anything and we could talk seemingly forever.
